Horny illos

It's been a while since I last posted... I've been fully immersed in getting the replacement screenprint artwork coloured up & finished. It was a real pain in the arse - I really wanted to push ahead with new stuff but I was stuck working on an old piece.... but it's finally finished done... http://www.flickr.com/photos/uberkraaft/4456682023/

I've lost a bit of focus on the new style - feeling like I'm at a bit of a crossroads - been spending too much time looking at other peoples works & tying myself up in knots of self doubt... I guess it's all part of the game?!

I have managed a couple of sketches (above) that might have potential but I'm struggling decide which to go for next... any thoughts appreciated. I'm veering towards the trumpeters - I need to sort it out compositionally... it could make for a nice piece?

  1. When I read your blog I feel like I'm reading my own thoughts! When you have so many things you enjoy and want to explore it can feel impossible to make a choice. Rest assured that no choice you make has to be permanent! The screenprint piece looks fantastic.

  2. Thanks Michelle :) ... that's really important - 'no choice you make has to be permanent!', I try to keep that in mind but I guess I get a bit scared of investing time in something that might not work... I must 'man up' :D

  4. Thanks Lesley! Funny isn't it... there's a lot of us with this skewed view of our own work - I find your stuff massively inspirational in so many ways but I guess that's irrelevant because you've got your own aims & aspirations for your work... just have to keep going and putting stuff out.

Also, no matter how hard you're finding the struggle, people are still digging your work - that must mean you're good! :)

  5. 'Eh up. Loving the sketches but can't make my mind up which one I like the best - sorry you need to work them both up. Think the drummer would look ace with a few backing chums.

  7. Hey man, really enjoy reading the posts and seeing the development, trials and tribulations towards reaching a new style. I have been quiet online as of late as I am trying to develop a way of incorporating type within my work and can definitely identify with how difficult the transition phase of applying new way of working is. Keep on grinding dude and Im sure we will get there in the end! Keep up the excellent stuff!!!

  9. HaHa always here to help ;-) I think the 'Band hat' would make a great piece on its own, but the drummer would be better as part of a band. On development side of things - I've got one I'm working on tonight a birthday gift) then I'll be free to try the no-keylines gig...
